Mike Welch Bio
As a college head coach, Mike Welch has awarded over $2,000,000 in athletic scholarships. Welch earned 267 career wins in 17 years as an NCAA Division I (11) and NCAA Division II (6) college head coach. Welch was Head Coach at Idaho State University (3rd on all-time win list, still owns best season record since 1989), Head Coach at University of North Florida (2nd on all-time win list) and Head Coach at Morehead State University (won school’s first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship). He recorded twenty-win seasons at all three institutions, earned win number 200 over Pac-10 Oregon in Eugene. While a college head coach, Welch led his teams to 6 nationally ranked seasons, 5 conference championships, 4 NCAA Tournament appearances, 1 NIVC Tournament appearance, 5 AVCA Team Academic Awards, including the highest team GPA in the nation out of all NCAA Division I volleyball teams, and two top 3 finishes in the nation in NCAA Division II. Additionally, his college players earned 2 All-American, 17 All-Region, 43 All-Conference, and 84 Academic All-Conference honorees.
